Increment in prices of goods is gradually forcing bread retailers in the Nsawam district to go on strike after bakers declared a strike action following the sharp rise in flour and other commodities.
According to the report, bakers claim the rise in commodities, especially flour, is affecting their business and obviously to draw attention to their plight, they have embarked on this strike.
Giving an insight on the gravity of the situation, one retailer, Auntie Naana, revealed on Rainbow Radio that several retailers in the area were unable to sell today because of the strike action.
She told host Kwabena Agyapong that the bakers are planning to increase the wholesale price. She lamented that an increase in the wholesale price will affect the retail price and make it difficult for them to sell.
Auntie Naana further said the bread business has been stalled in recent times owing to the frequent hike in prices of the items they use to produced the bread.
Retailers she disclosed make between Ghc50-Ghc60 as commission on good business days after selling bread worth more than Ghc200.
